General Elk

Our October general season elk hunt takes place from our permanent base camp in the Washakie wilderness of the Shoshone National Forest.  This is a very rugged hunt accessible by horseback only.  This is some of the most pristine wilderness in the country.

Yellowstone Regional Airport in Cody Wyoming is the nearest airport.  You will need to arrive at least a day or two in advance.  We will then travel to the trailhead, pack up and ride two and a half hours into base camp.  You can expect a comfortable saddle, sure-footed mountain horse, and plenty of breathtaking views.  Camp has all of the comforts of home including a warm shower.  You and one other hunter will sleep in a spacious 10 x 10 canvas tent complete with a warm wood stove. We have an excellent cook on hand to keep you going strong.  There will also be wranglers to saddle your horse and camp jacks to keep the camp running smoothly.  Hunting will be done with one guide to every two hunters at a minimum.  We wake early, eat a good breakfast and head out to find your bull.  The day is spent glassing and hunting.  We stay out all day and eat a sack lunch.  When we return to camp a hardy dinner will be waiting.  At the maximum there will be only six hunters in camp at one time.  I have plenty of areas to hunt to keep the hunter success high.  We usually average an 80% kill on elk and take some great bulls.  Our goal is for everyone to have an honest chance at a good 6 x 6 mature bull.

Late Season Elk Hunt

The late season elk hunts take place after the deer season.  Usually the deep snow and cold weather start bringing the big boys down and out of Yellowstone around November.  We hunt in areas 55, 56, 58, 59, and 121 for late season bulls.  Season dates and terrain vary in these different areas but if you are lucky enough to get your hands on one of these limited quota draw tags the chances for the bull of a lifetime are very real.  Our base camp is literally right on one of these migrations and when it happens a 350 or better bull is usually the norm.  Any one of these areas can and has produced some monster bulls.  A hunter can expect to see a lot of bulls and 95% of the time score on something in the 340 to 370 range with an occasional higher scoring bull.

Cow Elk Hunt

In late November and December we offer cow elk hunts.  We are usually hunting the elk while they are on their winter ranges.  If you would like to come on a good affordable hunt to fill the freezer with tasty elk meat, give me a call. The hunt is usually fairly easy and very successful.  The Wyoming Game and Fish offers most of these hunts to control elk numbers.  Season areas and dates vary from year to year but some of these tags are usually pretty easy to get.
